Choosenick! » Big public service design ideas I'm big excited about right now
Great post!
It rings a bell when you mentioned about getting those banal principles that always crop up out the way. I think for one project I did last year it was mentioned that we had pretty much written the definitive of all service design visions which encompassed every basic principal in the book, but like you said, worthwhile still writing down and sticking on the wall. I refer to some of my principals as golden nuggets, those ones you can really get hold of and run with that spark a great creative idea or direction, but importantly, as mentioned in Sarah Nelson's essay inspire real life solutions.
Great post, its really made me think about pulling together my research on a new project, asap!

"Learn Direct Scotland maximising accessibility
of information, awareness and sustainability
for existing and prospective learners."
and the brief was...
"Design a service that targets the user
needs in their daily lives and engages
them on their level. The service must
be sustainable and provide the user
with support throughout their whole
journey."
(It makes sense in context, however since being lectured on the use of the word awareness I would perhaps remove it now) heh
Thanks for this post, I really have to kick into principal mode before getting swamped with research. I'm working on a cycling project at the moment for my final year at GSA, http://thecyclingcommuter.wordpress.com are you a cyclist yourself, you might be interested in it?
cheers

Great to have some really practical insights from you!
the point of the principles actually changes through the design process is a very inspiring insight. it also reflects a changing role of the designer in the process as well...is it because of the change of audience at the different stages?
Keep good stuff coming :-)
